How to Get an Fencing License?

Fencing is a sport of attack and defense between two people using sword-like weapons. It is played in specially prepared clothing. It is a sport that develops agility, speed, quick decision-making, and the nervous system. In our country, it is generally known as sword sport. It has been included in the Olympic Games since 1896. It has three different branches. These branches are distinguished by the weapons used. The weapons are designed not to injure individuals. In a match, points are scored by touching certain areas of the opponent. The first fencing master in Turkey was Muallim Hüsnü Bey. Muallim Hüsnü Bey first trained three young men in this sport. These three young men were Refik Bey, Ömer Lütfi Bey, and Fuat Bey. During the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II, they achieved great victories against the Italians in fencing competitions held at Yıldız Palace. After this, Abdulhamid II introduced fencing lessons into the War Academies. There are still ongoing fencing activities today. Fencing is still taught as an official course at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory and State Conservatory.
